Ekiti Court Orders Death Sentence for Robbery, Murder


ADO-EKITI – An Ekiti State High Court sentenced five men to death by hanging after convicting them of armed robbery and murder. This death sentence was given to Ojo Tope, Damilola Christopher, Joshua Adegoke, Aderopo Temitope, and Oyedele Oluwatobi. The court also sentenced them to 21 years imprisonment for conspiracy.

Violent Robbery Ended in Murder

According to the charges, the five men robbed three people in Ado-Ekiti on August 18, 2021. They stole money, laptops, and mobile phones. During the robbery, they killed a street night guard named Joseph Blessing.

Court Hands Down Death Sentence

The prosecution presented evidence from four witnesses and submitted 13 exhibits. The defendants testified in their own defense but did not call other witnesses. The judge concluded the prosecution proved the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. As a result, the court imposed the death sentence for the murder and robbery. Julius Ajibare, the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions, prosecuted the case. Adeyinka Opaleke represented the defendants.
