Firefighters Prevent Fire After Overturned Tanker Spills Fuel

Oyo State – A petroleum overturned tanker spilled 45,000 litres of fuel Saturday morning. The incident happened around 9 am on the Oyo-Ogbomoso expressway at Offa-Metta.

The IVECO tanker, registered Jigawa GMN 413 XA, lost control and swerved off the road. Its tank detached from the truck head. Fuel spilled onto the expressway, creating alarm.

Swift Response Prevents Fire

Oyo State Fire Service General Manager Yemi Akinyinka confirmed the accident. He said the service received a call reporting the overturned tanker at 9:38 am. A fire crew went to the scene immediately. Firefighters found the overturned tanker and the fuel spill. They applied a foam chemical compound to neutralize the spill. This action prevented a fire. Firefighters stayed at the scene to monitor the situation. “We used foam chemical compound to prevent a possible fire outbreak,” Akinyinka stated.
