First Serving Nigerian Air Force Professor Named

Abuja – The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) appointed Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Osichinaka Ubadike as Professor of Aerospace Engineering. He is the first serving officer to receive this rank from the NAF. Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, NAF Director of Public Relations, announced the appointment, stating it reflects the NAF’s focus on research and development. AVM Ubadike is now the first active-duty Nigerian Air Force professor.

Ubadike’s Role in NAF Research

AVM Ubadike holds a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Cranfield University. He led the NAF team that developed an indigenous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). His appointment recognizes his academic background and work within the NAF. The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Governing Council also appointed retired AVM Paul Jemitola as Professor of Aerospace Engineering, recognizing his work in aircraft design. The appointment of a serving Nigerian Air Force professor is a notable development.

NAF Aims for Internal Expertise

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, stated the NAF aims to increase its technological capabilities through education and research. “We will continue to invest in the empowerment of our flagship training and capacity development institutions to progressively minimize dependence on foreign expertise,” said Air Marshal Abubakar. These appointments support the NAF’s goal of developing internal expertise for national requirements, including the first serving Nigerian Air Force professor.
