Former Top Kano Official Faces Arrest After Court Issues Bench Warrant

Kano – A Kano State High Court has taken a dramatic step, issuing a bench warrant for the arrest of M.A. Lawal, the state’s former Attorney General. Lawal, a key figure in previous administrations, failed to appear in court to face serious charges.

Millions Missing: The Charges Against Lawal and Ganduje

Lawal now faces a four-count charge alleging criminal misappropriation and breach of trust. At the heart of the case is a staggering ₦240 million (approximately $195,000 USD). He’s not alone; Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC and former Kano State Governor, is also named in the charges.

At Monday’s hearing, prosecutors revealed that Ganduje had yet to be served with court documents. Lawal, however, had been served but was a no-show. Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu promptly issued the bench warrant for Lawal’s arrest. The high-stakes case is now adjourned until May 6, when the arraignment is scheduled.

Another Case, Another Warrant

In a seperate but related case, the court ordered a bench warrant for Jibrilla Muhammad. Muhammad formely managed the Kano State Investment and Properties Limited (KSIP). He is accused in another case of alleged misappropriation totaling ₦212.4 million. His co-defendent, Dauda Sheshe, was not served. The next court date for their case is April 29.
