Oye-Ekiti – The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Governing Council has officially exonerated Vice Chancellor Professor Abayomi Fasina from sexual harassment allegations. The FUOYE Governing Council clears VC following an investigation into claims made by senior lecturer Mrs. Folasade Adebayo. The council stated it found no credible evidence to support the accusations, a conclusion that mirrors the findings of a prior investigation by the Nigerian Police Force, which also determined no harassment occurred.
Council’s Investigation Concludes
After reviewing the case, the council determined Mrs. Adebayo’s allegations were unfounded. The report suggested the claims might have been an attempt to improperly influence Professor Fasina regarding her appointment as substantive Director of Works and Services, a role the Vice Chancellor does not have the sole power to confirm. Because the FUOYE Governing Council clears VC, it has directed Mrs. Adebayo to submit a formal apology letter to the council within one week for actions deemed damaging to the university’s reputation. The council also expressed disapproval of how university management handled aspects of the case, specifically noting the irregularity of backdating Mrs. Adebayo’s promotion to 2015 this year, warning against such practices.
Future Actions Ordered
To ensure proper procedures moving forward, the council has instructed university management to re-evaluate the circumstances surrounding Mrs. Adebayo’s backdated promotion. Furthermore, the university must now formally advertise the positions for a permanent Director of Physical Planning and Director of Works and Services. These directives aim to uphold transparency and fairness in university appointments and operations.
