Ado Ekiti – Two men received life sentences for the gang-rape of a 13-year-old girl. Anu Olaniyi and Abidemi Alibaloye were convicted in Ekiti State High Court. The incident occurred on December 28, 2020.
The Crime
The victim testified that she was on an errand when one man stopped her. He directed her to his friend’s place. There, both men forced themselves on her. She recognized both men. She reported the crime to her mother. This led to the men’s arrest and trial.
Legal Proceedings
Julius Ajibare, Director of Public Prosecutions, argued the men violated Ekiti State law. He presented four witnesses and seven exhibits. The defendants testified but called no witnesses. Justice Adekunle Adeleye ruled the prosecution proved gang-rape and conspiracy beyond doubt. He sentenced each man to life in prison for gang-rape and two years for conspiracy.
