Ekiti – A thunderstorm caused a school fire Sunday at Saint Peter’s Primary School in Igbemo Ekiti. The school fire destroyed five classroom blocks during heavy rain that lasted over an hour. Teachers moved pupils to AUD Pilot Nursery and Primary School to continue lessons.
Government Pledges Reconstruction
Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye visited the site Monday for Governor Biodun Oyebanji. Afuye promised the community quick reconstruction. “We will rebuild the razed structure soon,” Afuye stated. “Pupils and teachers can return after the school fire incident.” She also praised the fast relocation of students.
Sanitation Concerns Arise
During the visit, Afuye addressed poor sanitation at AUD Pilot School. She ordered an end to open defecation and waste dumping on its grounds. Mrs. Adesola George-Ojo, the local Education Secretary, stressed the need for perimeter fencing at the damaged school. She said fencing would prevent other environmental issues.
