Osogbo – The Osun State Government has sharply criticized a suggestion by Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to declare a State of Emergency in Osun. The suggestion arose from ongoing disputes about who should be running local governments.
Basiru had warned Governor Ademola Adeleke to “learn” from the crisis in Rivers State, hinting that if council chairmen weren’t reinstated, the federal government might step in.
“Callous and Unlawful”: Government Fires Back
Kolapo Alimi, Osun’s Commissioner for Information, didn’t hold back. He blasted Basiru’s comments as “callous and unlawful.” Alimi made it clear that Osun is not like Rivers State. He warned the APC not to try and destabilize Osun for political gain, stating firmly, “Osun remains stable and does not warrant emergency measures.”
The commissioner went further, accusing the APC of trying to grab power using “mischievous devices” instead of through the ballot box. “All the evil machinations against the government of Ademola Adeleke will not see the light of the day,” he declared.
He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dismiss Basiru’s proposal, calling Basiru a “rejected and frustrated politician” whose attempts to stir up trouble in Osun should be flatly ignored. He maintained that any call for a State of Emergency is completely unwarranted.
