UYO – Following his recent Supreme Court victory confirming his election, Akwa Ibom Governor Umoh Eno has been advised by a former lawmaker, Otuekong Sunny Jackson Udoh, to lead with wisdom and magnanimity. Simultaneously, Governor Eno himself has fueled speculation about a potential defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the rival All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hints of Possible Governor Eno Defection Emerge
Speaking during a constituency outreach program, Governor Eno used a striking analogy, comparing the PDP to a faulty aircraft unable to fly. He asked attendees hypothetically if they wouldn’t switch planes to reach their destination if their booked flight developed a fault. This comment has been widely interpreted as signalling openness to a Governor Eno defection. However, the governor quickly added that delivering service to the people remains his primary focus.
Calls for Wisdom Amid Outreach Efforts
Otuekong Udoh’s advice specifically called for Eno to be generous in victory. Meanwhile, Governor Eno connected directly with constituents at the outreach event. He distributed empowerment packages to over 400 people, including grants for traders and farmers, funding for small businesses, and equipment support. “We need to meet with the people from time to time,” Eno stated, emphasizing grassroots connection even as talk of a defection swirls. “This government belongs to the people.”
