Guler Goal Keeps Real Madrid Title Hopes Alive

Madrid – Arda Güler scored the only goal in Real Madrid’s 1-0 win against Getafe on Wednesday. This Guler goal  secured reduces Barcelona’s La Liga lead to four points.

Real Madrid played after losing to Arsenal in the Champions League. Coach Carlo Ancelotti made six changes to the starting lineup. He rested Jude Bellingham before the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. Kylian Mbappé did not play due to an ankle injury.

Guler Scores Decisive Goal

Arda Güler scored in the 21st minute from a counterattack. Endrick, making his first La Liga start, had a shot cleared off the line by Djene Dakonam. Getafe had chances later in the game. Substitute Mauro Arambarri missed a scoring opportunity for Getafe. The Guler goal  scored was the difference.

Play stopped near the end of the match after Aurelien Tchouameni spoke to the referee. A stadium announcement warned fans against racist behavior. Getafe’s Alvaro Rodriguez had a shot saved by Thibaut Courtois in stoppage time.

The win keeps Real Madrid in the title race with five games left. The schedule includes a match against Barcelona on May 11. Getafe remains 12th in the league standings.
