House Representatives Clash Over Rivers State Emergency

Abuja — Two members of the House of Representatives argued over President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. Marie Ebikake and Blessing Amadi clashed before the plenary session.

Disagreement on Emergency Declaration

Ebikake and Amadi disagreed about the President’s decision. Ebikake represents Brass/Nembe Federal Constituency of Bayelsa. Amadi represents Port Harcourt Two Federal Constituency of Rivers State. They pointed fingers and raised their voices.

President Tinubu declared a state of emergency after a nationwide broadcast. He said, “I feel greatly disturbed by the political crisis in Rivers.” He cited governance paralysis and unresolved political conflicts. Tinubu suspended Governor Sim Fubara, his deputy, and state lawmakers for six months.

Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) as interim administrator. “No responsible President will stand by without taking action,” he stated. The emergency declaration followed an explosion at an oil facility and a fire at the Trans-Niger Pipeline. These incidents raised concerns about security and economic stability. The debate over President Tinubu’s decision is expected to continue.
