ABUJA, NIGERIA – Ijaw leader Chief (Dr.) Senator Edwin Kiagbodo Clark died on Monday, February 17, 2025. He was 97. Clark, a major figure in Nigerian politics, died at his home. The family confirmed his death in a statement signed by C.C. Clark.
Edwin Clark served Nigeria in many roles. He was a lawyer, administrator, and politician. He was the Commissioner for Education in the Mid-Western Region (1968–71). He became Federal Commissioner for Information in 1975. Clark also served as a Senator (1979–83).
Clark was a prominent leader in the South-South. He championed the rights of the Niger Delta people. He led the South-South Peoples Assembly, the Southern and Middle-Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), and the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF). Clark advocated for resource control and true federalism.
