JAMB Warns UTME Candidates Against Poor Examination Town Selection

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) warned candidates for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to carefully select their examination town. JAMB issued this warning because of unusual candidate preferences.

JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin stated that candidates, not JAMB, choose their examination towns. He noted that 90% of spaces for the optional mock exam are full. Only a few states still have open slots.

“The Board allocates mock examination spaces for candidates,” Benjamin explained. “Candidates select based on availability. Once a town’s capacity is reached, it is no longer available.”

The remaining states with mock exam slots are: Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, and Yobe.

Benjamin advised candidates to consider travel and convenience when picking an examination town. He said this would ensure a better experience on exam day. Candidates are responsible for the consequences of their choices. JAMB will not be held responsible for distant exam locations.
