Atmore, Alabama – James Osgood, 55, is scheduled for execution by lethal injection Thursday evening in Alabama. The James Osgood execution follows his conviction for the 2010 rape and murder of Tracy Lynn Brown. Osgood dropped his appeals, stating he is guilty.
Execution Details
The execution is set for 6 p.m. CDT Thursday. It will be at William Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore. Osgood chose lethal injection.
2010 Murder Conviction
Osgood was convicted of capital murder in Chilton County for killing Tracy Lynn Brown. Prosecutors said Osgood cut Brown’s throat after he and his girlfriend, Brown’s cousin, sexually assaulted her. Osgood admitted police that he and his girlfriend discussed kidnapping and torture fantasies before the crime. His girlfriend is serving a life sentence. This conviction led to the planned James Osgood execution.
Osgood Drops Appeals, Apologizes
Osgood stopped his appeals. He expressed remorse for the pain caused to Brown’s family and his own. “I would like to say to the victim’s family, I apologize,” Osgood stated, adding he would not ask for their forgiveness. Osgood is among roughly 10% of US death row inmates who have waived appeals before their execution.
