The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) partnered with A.P. Moller Terminal Apapa. They launched the Lagos-Ibadan freight train service.
A ceremony at the A.P. Terminal marked the beginning of this service, which reduces congestion at the Apapa port in Lagos. The port is difficult to access.
Dr. Kayode Opeifa is the Managing Director of NRC. He said the major goal is to reduce the number of trucks that move imported goods from Apapa.
Opeifa asked importers to use the new Lagos-Ibadan freight train. It is cheaper and more efficient for moving goods.
He also asked for support from stakeholders. These include the Nigerian Shippers Council, Nigerian Port Authority, and Nigerian Customs Service. They must help to make the Lagos-Ibadan freight train project succeed.
