Lagos – With the Easter holiday underway, the Lagos State Government is highlighting the importance of health and safety. Officials are urging residents to prioritize HIV prevention during their Easter festivities. Practicing safe behaviours is key to protecting community health. Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, CEO of the Lagos State Agency for the Control of AIDS (LSACA), shared this important message on Sunday. She encouraged Lagosians to adopt healthy practices throughout the holiday period.
Healthy Choices Support HIV Prevention
Dr. Animashaun emphasized that Easter is a time for renewal and making positive choices. “Focus on healthy living and adopt safe practices,” she advised, underlining the connection to HIV prevention. Celebrating responsibly includes safe sex practices and undergoing regular health checks. Moderation in daily life also plays a role. These healthy habits are fundamental steps in effective HIV prevention.
Combat Stigma to Improve Health Outcomes
Supporting individuals living with or affected by HIV remains essential. Dr. Animashaun pointed out that stigma is a major obstacle. Fear of discrimination can prevent people from seeking necessary medical care or disclosing their HIV status. Showing compassion and understanding helps create a supportive environment, which indirectly aids HIV prevention efforts by encouraging testing and treatment.
LSACA reaffirms the government’s commitment to healthcare initiatives. Residents can access free HIV testing and counseling services at designated health facilities throughout Lagos State. Knowing your status is a critical step. Free treatment is available for those who need it. Everyone should stay informed, get tested, and utilize healthcare services. Embracing care and personal responsibility protects individual and public health this Easter.
