NAFDAC Crushes N100 Billion in Banned Drugs, Arrests Dozens

Oyo State – NAFDAC just destroyed a mountain of banned and fake drugs worth a staggering N100 billion! They also hauled in over 40 suspects involved in this dangerous trade.

Professor Christiana Mojisola Adeyeye, the head of NAFDAC, announced the massive seizure. The banned items were found lurking in markets like Idumota, Onitsha, Ariara, and Ezeuku. What kind of stuff are we talking about? Think Analgin, super-strong Tramadol (225mg), and other illegal or unregistered medications. Scary, right?

A Blow to Counterfeiters

Professor Adeyeye was clearly shocked by the scale of the counterfeit drug problem. “Finding these unregistered and banned products… it’s making our country unsafe,” she said. Imagine the damage these fakes could do!

Thankfully, NAFDAC got some serious backup. They thanked National Security Advisor Malam Nuhu Ribadu, who authorized over 1,000 security officers to help with the raid. Talk about bringing in the big guns!

“We’re watching the destruction of expired, fake, controlled, unregistered, and banned medicines today,” Professor Adeyeye declared. “All worth about one hundred billion naira on the street.” That’s a lot of poison taken off our streets.

Cracking Down on Illegal Sales

Pharm. Shaba Mohammed, NAFDAC’s top investigator, made it clear: selling drugs in open markets is a crime.

He emphasized that hawking drugs from vehicles, kiosks, or in the open is illegal and will be punished. The dramatic drug disposal happened at the Dumpsite in Moniya, right here in Oyo State. Let’s hope this sends a strong message to anyone dealing in these deadly fakes.
