Abuja – The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has declared a commitment to protecting telecommunications infrastructure nationwide. The NCC aims to improve service quality for Nigerians in the coming months. The Commission will enforce zero tolerance for telecom infrastructure vandalism.
Aggressive Prosecution Targets Telecom Vandals
Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of NCC, Aminu Maida, stated Friday that vandals of critical national infrastructure will face no mercy. He confirmed culprits will undergo full legal prosecution. The Commission plans to “name and shame” those responsible for stealing fiber optic cables and sabotage. This stance combats telecom infrastructure vandalism.
Community Engagement Fuels Aggressive Prosecution
The NCC partners with security agencies to apprehend and prosecute vandals. This action falls under the Critical National Infrastructure Protection Bill. Dr. Maida highlighted reliable telecommunications’ importance for national security, economic development, and public well-being. He warned individuals disrupting services face the law’s full force. Tackling telecom infrastructure vandalism is a priority.
Dr. Maida anticipates a substantial rise in industry investments for 2025. This growth should surpass previous years’ levels. Such investment is expected to improve service delivery, reducing impacts of telecom infrastructure vandalism. “Nigerians can expect to start experiencing improved quality of telecom services in approximately two months,” Dr. Maida stated. The NCC is committed to a resilient, efficient, consumer-focused telecom sector.
