WhatsApp is improving its app with a new way to chat filters, making it easier to find the conversations you need. The messaging giant has launched a beta update, available through the Google Play Beta Program, which introduces permanently visible chat filters at the top of the screen.
Previously, finding your filters—Unread, Groups, Work, etc. meant scrolling through your chat list. Now, the minute you open WhatsApp, those crucial filters are right there, front and centre. This small change dramatically speeds up navigation, eliminating unnecessary steps and putting you in control of your chats faster.
Beyond just staying put, WhatsApp is also giving you a helpful heads-up on your unread messages. A number now appears next to each filter, clearly indicating the quantity of unread messages in that category. This helps you decide what to tackle first. We also put your “Favourites” filter first, so you can contact your most important contacts more quickly.
The WhatsApp beta update is being rolled out to select beta testers now. More users will get the update in the coming weeks.
WhatsApp is also rolling out a new “Create Events” feature. You’ll be able to plan events directly with individuals, where it was previously limited to group chats. You can arrange meetups and even link them to a voice/video call, all within the chat.
