Idiroko – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and Benin Republic customs have agreed to strengthen their trade relationship. Both countries want to fight smuggling and create a safer environment.
Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu of the NCS said this relationship is important for both countries and the region.
Enhancing Collaboration
Shuaibu said the meeting allowed stakeholders to share ideas and find solutions. He also noted the importance of maintaining the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and Benin Republic. Both countries will work together to remove obstacles and promote legal cross-border .
Trade Beyond ECOWAS
Shuaibu confirmed that the exit of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso from ECOWAS has not hurt business realation. He explained that it will continues with other countries. He believes that the African Free Trade Association (AFTA) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) will help boost relationship between Nigeria and Benin Republic grow.
