LAGOS – The Nigeria Customs Service announced a significant seizure at Apapa Ports. Officers intercepted 11 containers packed with unregistered sex drugs, expired food items, and other contraband valued at N921 million.
Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi warned the seized goods pose serious health threats. He cited risks like potential heart problems and dangerous interactions with other medications. “The disturbing trend in the importation of unregulated sexual performance drugs poses serious health risks,” Adeniyi stated firmly.
Dangerous Goods Found in Nigeria Customs Seizure
Adeniyi provided details on the dangerous contents found in the seizure. The containers held unregistered pharmaceuticals, notably sex-enhancement drugs, alongside expired food unfit for consumption. He revealed a common tactic used by smugglers: falsely declaring these dangerous drugs as harmless cosmetics or general merchandise to try and slip past checks. “We have a sophisticated pattern of wrong declaration,” he explained.
Agencies Unite Against Smuggling
The Comptroller-General highlighted the critical role of teamwork between government agencies. He confirmed the Customs Service is actively working with partners like NAFDAC and the Office of the National Security Adviser to combat the flow of illegal goods. Adeniyi noted that formal agreements and joint operations significantly boost their ability to enforce the law and protect public health.
