Tourism minister calls reports “inaccurate” as visa processing continues normally
Abuja, Nigeria – Nigeria’s government rejected claims that the United Arab Emirates imposed new visa restrictions on its citizens. Tourism Minister Hannatu Musa-Musawa said Thursday that no official notice has been received from UAE authorities about policy changes.
Response to Travel Report
The denial follows a report that raised concerns among Nigerian travelers planning trips to Dubai and other UAE destinations.
“We clarify that the Federal Government has not received any official communication regarding changes to UAE’s visa policy, and visa issuance for Nigerians is proceeding in an orderly manner,” Musa-Musawa stated.
The African Travel Times article claimed the UAE had tightened visa conditions for Nigerian applicants. The July 12 report titled “A Bitter Irony: UAE’s Sanctions Undermine African Trust After Africa-Backed Win for UN Tourism Role” suggested diplomatic tensions were affecting travel policies.
Government Position
Minister Musa-Musawa called for the publisher to retract the information.
“The Ministry wishes to state categorically that the views and assertions made in the article do not reflect the position of the Honourable Minister, the Ministry, or the Federal Government of Nigeria,” her statement read.
Dubai remains a popular destination for Nigerian travelers who visit for business, shopping, and tourism.
Bilateral Relations Continue
Nigeria and the UAE maintain their partnership across tourism, cultural exchanges, and trade. Musa-Musawa said current cooperation programs between both countries remain unaffected.
The minister confirmed Nigeria’s commitment to diplomatic relationships with the UAE based on mutual respect.
