Abuja – Over 2,000 Nigerian military personnel have received training in Pakistan, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, confirmed. This Nigeria Pakistan military training update came during a visit by Pakistan’s Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza. General Musa stated this capacity building aids Nigeria’s fight against security challenges.
Capabilities Enhanced Through Collaboration
The partnership provided training across Pakistani defence institutions. “Our relationship with the Pakistani military has facilitated the training of more than 2,000 of our officers in a variety of strategic and tactical courses,” General Musa said. Courses included Special Forces tactics, intelligence sharing, and border security management. General Mirza commended the Nigerian Armed Forces’ resilience. He noted Nigeria is a key African partner for the Pakistani military. This Nigeria Pakistan military training benefits both nations.
Future Defence Cooperation Discussed
Nigeria and Pakistan face similar threats like terrorism and aim to improve cooperation. General Mirza expressed interest in working with Nigeria’s Defence Industries Corporation (DICON). Collaboration could include joint defence production, with Pakistan offering experience in manufacturing tanks and small arms. The discussions aim to deepen defence ties for regional stability.
