Nigeria Sends Medical Aid Team to Tanzania

ABUJA – Nigeria has dispatched a medical aid team to Tanzania team, sending 35 skilled medical professionals to Zanzibar. This group, including doctors and nurses, arrives ready to support and enhance local healthcare services.

Expertise Shared Through NTAC

The deployment comes from the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC). This agency connects Nigerian volunteer experts with African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) nations requesting help. NTAC Director-General Dr. Yusuf Yakub explained the mission reflects Nigeria’s approach to international cooperation through sharing skills.

A Historic Step in Diplomacy

Dr. Yakub marked the occasion as significant. “Today is a historic day… the corps is sending 35 TAC volunteers to Zanzibar,” he stated, highlighting the mission follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive on using ‘soft power diplomacy’ – building relationships through cooperation rather than force. He thanked the President for backing NTAC’s efforts to advance Nigeria’s foreign policy and assist partner nations. This Nigeria medical aid team to Tanzania initiative demonstrates that commitment directly.

Volunteers Ready to Contribute

The deployed medical professionals expressed enthusiasm for their roles. Team leader Dr. Paul Cornelius pledged the group would represent Nigeria effectively. Mary-Jane Okieze, a registered nurse on the team, described it as an important chance “to showcase their skills and promote Nigeria.” The Nigeria medical aid team to Tanzania team will spend two years working alongside Tanzanian colleagues.
