Kano – A North-West University fire occurred at the Kano city campus on Thursday. The fire destroyed property valued at millions of Naira. No lives were lost in the incident. One staff member suffered injuries while fighting the flames and is receiving medical care. The North-West University fire began around 11:20 am. It damaged offices in the Information and Communication Technology department.
Cause and Response

Reports suggest an electrical spark started the North-West University fire. A security guard trained in firefighting inhaled smoke while attempting to control the blaze. Firefighters from the Kano State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service arrived quickly. They prevented the fire from spreading to other areas. Kano State Fire Service Director Sani Anas confirmed the fire was controlled effectively.
Damage Assessment Underway
University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mukhtar Kurawa said the fire was extinguished. He stated the total value of the damage is not yet known. He expressed relief that no one died in the North-West University fire. Kurawa also noted the university turns off electrical items daily for safety.
