Nursing Student Faces Discipline Over First Lady’s Visit Video

Delta State – A nursing student at the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences faces disciplinary action. This follows her alleged recording and posting of an “unauthorized” video on social media during Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s visit.

The college issued a disciplinary query to student nurse Osato Edobor. The letter, signed by provost Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, states Edobor committed a “malicious act.” She reportedly recorded herself singing and posted an “unofficial response” to a song during the First Lady’s arrival. The letter cites the Student Handbook, which lists this as a punishable offense.

Student’s Actions and Public Reaction

Delta State nursing student faces discipline for an "unauthorized" video during the First Lady's visit. The video sparked reactions related to economic hardship.

The incident occurred during the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme. At the event, nursing students appeared to reject the First Lady as their “mother.” They responded with “Na your mama be this.” This translates to “This is your mother.” The video of this event has circulated widely. Many people link the students’ reaction to discontent over the country’s economic issues and insecurity under President Bola Tinubu. The school has ordered Edobor to submit a written explanation within 24 hours. She must explain why she should not face disciplinary measures. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, however, praised the First Lady’s health program efforts.
