Osimhen Breaks Turkish Goal Record, Galatasaray Wins Cup

ISTANBUL – Victor Osimhen scored two goals on Wednesday night. With these goals, Osimhen breaks Turkish goal record for most goals by a foreign player in a single season. His performance helped Galatasaray win the Turkish Cup. The Istanbul team defeated Trabzonspor 3-0 in the final, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigerian striker began the final with 33 goals. He needed two more goals to pass the 34-goal record. Mario Jardel set that record in the 2000/01 season.

Osimhen Hits 35-Goal Mark in Cup Triumph

Osimhen scored in the 46th and 63rd minutes of the final. These goals increased his season total to 35 goals in all competitions. This performance secured Galatasaray’s 19th Turkish Cup title, a national record. Baris Yilmaz scored Galatasaray’s first goal in the fifth minute from a Yunus Akgun pass.

Osimhen’s first goal came after halftime. It was a low shot from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner. His second goal was a sharp turn inside the area and a curled shot into the top corner. This display means Osimhen breaks Turkish goal record effectively.

Climbing Galatasaray’s All-Time Foreign Scorer Ranks

With 35 goals in 38 games, Osimhen has also advanced on Galatasaray’s all-time foreign goalscorers list. He surpassed Brazil’s Mario Jardel. Only seven other foreign players have scored more goals for Galatasaray. Romania’s Gheorghe Hagi leads that chart with 72 goals.

Galatasaray can now complete a domestic double. A win against Kayserispor on Sunday will secure their 25th league title. This would be the club’s fourth double, last achieved in the 1998–99 season.
