Kaduna – A significant political shift occurred in Kaduna North as a mass defection to APC took place. Around 300 members previously with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kawo Ward.
APC Welcomes Newcomers, Praises Governor
Leaders within the APC warmly welcomed the defectors. Jamilu Haruna, from the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), called the move a strong endorsement of Governor Uba Sani’s leadership. Haruna pointed to the governor’s achievements in infrastructure, farming reforms, and rural development. “Even members of the opposition acknowledge Governor Uba Sani’s giant strides in security, education, food security, and citizens’ welfare,” Haruna remarked.
Why the Kaduna Defection to APC Happened
Professor Usman Muhammad, who once sought a PDP senatorial ticket, spearheaded the move, bringing reportedly 225 members from the PDP alone. He cited Governor Sani’s inclusive approach as a major draw. Muhammad also voiced frustration with the PDP, feeling that experienced figures like himself were overlooked despite their service. This large defection to APC underscores changing political dynamics in the area.
The APC Chairman for Kaduna North LGA, Alhaji Suleiman Wada Usman, greeted the new members. He promised them full integration and equal standing within the party.
