ABUJA – The Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) sealed the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday. The building is located in Abuja’s Zone 5. This action followed the party’s prolonged failure to settle outstanding ground rent obligations. The PDP Secretariat shutdown has drawn significant public and political attention.
Decades of Debt Trigger FCTA Action
Lere Olayinka, spokesman for FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, confirmed the enforcement. He stated, “FCTA seals PDP Secretariat in Zone 5 Abuja. It was revoked for not paying ground rent.” This development indicates the FCTA’s renewed commitment to enforcing property regulations throughout the capital city. The accumulated unpaid dues allegedly span nearly three decades, highlighting a substantial PDP Abuja office debt.
FCTA Names Property Owner
The FCTA identified Senator Samaila Mamman Kurfi as the owner of the sealed property. Clarifying the ownership, Olayinka said, “Senator Samaila Mamman Kurfi, owner of the property, failed to pay Ground Rent for 28 years.” This revelation has prompted questions regarding regulatory oversight. Critics question how such a significant backlog of unpaid rent could persist for so long without earlier intervention by authorities. The FCTA seals PDP headquarters as part of this enforcement.
