PDP Sweeps Local Government Elections in Osun State

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all positions in the recent local government elections in Osun State.

Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) Chairman, Hashim Abioye, announced the results. PDP candidates secured all 30 chairmanship positions and 332 councillorship seats. The announcement was made via a social media video.

Reports indicate the result declaration occurred at the Government House in Osogbo. The police had sealed off OSIEC’s office.

Abioye stated the election followed constitutional rules and regulations. “The Local Government election has been successfully concluded,” he said.

Eighteen political parties participated. However, PDP candidates won in all wards and local government areas. Abioye declared them the winners.

Abioye apologized to the media. He said the police blockade of OSIEC’s headquarters prevented access to accreditation materials. “Up till now, police have refused to give us access,” he explained.

The commission continued with the election and announced the results despite these issues.
