Peter Nwachukwu Sentenced to Death for Wife Osinachi’s Killing

Abuja – Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of the late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, has been sentenced to death by hanging. An FCT High Court found him guilty of culpable homicide in connection with his wife’s death on April 8, 2022. Justice Nwosu-Iheme delivered the verdict after the court examined evidence presented during the trial. Peter Nwachukwu sentenced follows the court’s finding of guilt.

The Trial: Charges and Evidence

Nwachukwu faced 23 charges. These included culpable homicide, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children and spouse, and spousal battery. Prosecutors presented 17 witnesses and 25 documents as evidence. Nwachukwu testified in his own defense and called four other witnesses. Before sentencing, his lawyer asked for mercy, while the prosecutor argued for the maximum penalty.

Court’s Decision: Sentencing Details

Justice Nwosu-Iheme imposed the death sentence by hanging for the culpable homicide charge (count one). Peter Nwachukwu sentenced also includes lesser penalties for other counts. These consist of several two-year prison terms, one six-month term, and fines totaling N700,000 (N500,000 and N200,000 for separate counts).
