Peter Obi Warned by Edo Governor Against Unauthorised Visits

Okpebholo threatens no security guarantee for Labour Party leader without prior approval

Benin City, Edo State – Governor Monday Okpebholo warned Peter Obi against entering Edo State without official permission. In a viral video, the governor threatened that Obi’s security would not be guaranteed if he visits without prior approval.

Security Warning Delivered

Okpebholo addressed supporters in a video that spread quickly across social media. The governor referenced Obi’s public claims about his financial status while issuing the warning.

“This message is for the man who claims he has no ‘shishi’. There’s a new sheriff in town. He cannot just come into Edo without informing me. His security will not be guaranteed. If anything happens to him here, he will have himself to blame. I’m not joking,” Okpebholo said.

The Edo governor established himself as the authority who must approve political visits to the state. He made clear that unauthorized visits would not receive security protection.

N15 Million Donation Questioned

Okpebholo challenged the source of funds that Obi donated during a previous visit to Edo State. The governor questioned how someone claiming financial constraints could make such donations.

“He came the other day and gave out N15 million. A man who claims to have no money, where did he get that from?” the governor asked.

Okpebholo linked Obi’s visit to security incidents in Benin City. He claimed the visit caused unrest that resulted in three deaths in the state capital.

Second APC State Warning

This marks the second time an APC-controlled state has warned Obi against unauthorized visits. In April, Benue State officials cautioned the former presidential candidate against visiting an IDP camp housing victims of herdsmen attacks.

The Benue incident followed a similar pattern of APC governors demanding prior notification before opposition politicians could visit their states.

Political Control Asserted

Okpebholo’s warning reflects how state governors use security powers to control political activities within their territories. The governor insisted that proper protocols must be followed.

“Tell Obi not to step into Edo without informing me first,” the governor concluded.

The confrontation occurs as political activities increase across Nigeria. State governments continue asserting control over political gatherings and visits within their boundaries.
