Police Bust FCT Robbery Syndicate, One Killed in Shootout

ABUJA – The Nigeria Police have dealt a significant blow to an FCT robbery syndicate. A special police team, including the Scorpion Squad, confronted the gang. In a fierce gunfight on May 15, one suspect, Abdulmininu Bello (Babanle), was killed. Police arrested seven other alleged members. This successful operation brings welcome news for residents concerned about crime in the Federal Capital Territory.

Officers acted swiftly on intelligence. The robbery syndicate was reportedly planning a major crime in Maitama for May 19. The police strike prevented this. FCT Police Spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh confirmed the details. She also revealed that two suspects, including the suspected gang leader Solomon Bawa (known as Pastor Mogu), fled with gunshot wounds. Police are now hunting for these escapees and urge public help.

Violent Gang Targeted Luxury Car Owners

The arrested suspects, aged 18 to 51, include known ex-convicts. They confessed to being part of a violent network. This network preyed on owners of SUVs and other luxury vehicles. The gang used deceit or nighttime attacks. Police recovered a serious arsenal: four AK-47 rifles, a locally made shotgun, and ammunition. They also found a stolen Toyota Camry, a motorcycle, and a Lexus SUV.

Further police work showed the suspects used WhatsApp for their criminal plans. They also got inside information from domestic staff. The group admitted to selling stolen cars and to the 2015 murder of an MTN employee in Kaduna. The dismantling of this robbery syndicate is a key victory for law enforcement.

Police Step Up Security, Call for Citizen Vigilance

In related efforts to enhance safety, the Nigeria Police have launched a dedicated protection squad in the FCT. This new unit will focus on safeguarding schools and other vulnerable institutions. The FCT Commissioner of Police praised the officers involved in the successful takedown of the gang. He restated the Command’s strong resolve to crush violent crime in Abuja.

“All arrested suspects are now in custody. They will face court charges after investigations are complete,” SP Adeh assured the public.

Police strongly advise FCT residents to stay alert. Report any suspicious people or activities immediately using the Command’s emergency hotlines: 08032003913, 08028940883, 07057337653, or the Complaint Response Unit at 08107314192. Cooperation from citizens is vital for keeping Abuja safe.
