Port Harcourt – Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has announced the release of previously withheld local government allocations.
Salary Payments and Accountability
During a meeting with Heads of Local Government Administrators, Ibas assured attendees that he would take all necessary steps to ensure prompt salary payments. “I feel the pain of the workers,” he stated, emphasizing his commitment to resolving salary delays. Ibas directed all local governments to submit wage bills with proper documentation through the Head of Service.
Ibas cautioned against financial mismanagement. He warned that his administration would closely monitor the handling of public funds. He also urged administrators to maintain peace. “You must take the lead in ensuring security within your domains,” he instructed.
Clifford Paul, President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, welcomed the decision. He praised the administrator’s leadership. Paul noted that workers were owed two months’ salaries. He is optimistic that the newly released allocations would offer relief.
