Port Harcourt – Governor Siminalayi Fubara has ordered the immediate takeover of the 23 local government areas by the Heads of Administration. This follows a Supreme Court ruling that nullified the state local government elections conducted by RSIEC.
Fubara said the Heads of Administration must take control. This is until fresh elections are held by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
Transition of Power
The outgoing local government chairmen must hand over to the Heads of Administration by Monday, March 3, 2025. Fubara stated his administration disagrees with the court’s judgments but will obey them. He emphasized the government is law-abiding.
Fubara urged residents to remain calm. He asked that they continue their daily activities peacefully. The government will continue to advance good governance.
