Road Crash: Seven Dead, Including Four University Students, in Kogi

A road crash in Kogi State killed seven people. Four were Federal University, Lokoja (FUL) students. The accident happened Monday at 3:40 p.m. at Felele, along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja road.

Samuel Oyedeji, Kogi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He said brake failure caused the crash. An articulated vehicle, carrying timber, lost control. It went into the other lane. It hit a shuttle bus with students.

Three female students, one male student, the bus driver, and another passenger died instantly. One other student was injured.

FUL students protested. They blocked the highway. Traffic stopped for hours.

FRSC, Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) responded quickly. They rescued the injured student.

“The injured student is at the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja for treatment,” Oyedeji said. “The seven bodies are at the same hospital’s mortuary.”

The truck driver ran away. Authorities want drivers to check vehicles before trips. This road crash highlights safety concerns.

Kogi State Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye, State Security Adviser Retired Commodore Jerry Omodara, and FUL Vice-Chancellor Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi spoke to the students. They asked for calm. The government will investigate. They will act to prevent future accidents. The road is now open.
