Abuja – Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan reported a harrowing armed attack on her ancestral home in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi State. According to a statement released by her office, armed individuals descended upon the residence, originally her grandfather’s, late Tuesday night. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan represents the Kogi Central district.
The senator indicated the assault likely stemmed from mistaken identity. Her younger brother had been in the town earlier that day with contractors, scouting locations for planned community projects. The perpetrators apparently assumed the senator herself was visiting, leading to the armed attack after nightfall.
Swift Response Averts Injury
During the attack, the assailants vandalized parts of the property before being confronted. Quick action by civil defence officers and alert community members forced the attackers to flee the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. The matter has been formally reported to the local police command.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan called for public calm in the aftermath. She also made a direct appeal to the Inspector General of Police, requesting the reinstatement of her security detail. The senator emphasized that performing public duties should not expose individuals to such threats or violence.
