Imo Raid: Police Hunt Gunmen After Seven Die in Arondizuogu

ARONDISOGU, IMO STATE – A distressing late-night raid on Thursday has left at least seven people dead in three communities within Imo State’s Ideato North Local Government Area. Unidentified gunmen, reportedly arriving by motorcycle, carried out what’s described as a brutal assault, prompting an immediate and widespread police investigation into the matter.

Chaos in the Villages

The violence appears to have unfolded between 10 pm and 11 pm on Thursday across Umualoma, Ndiakunwanta, and Ndiejezie. From witness accounts, it seems the gunmen on motorbikes simply opened fire without any apparent pattern, catching residents from shopkeepers to shoppers completely off guard. The outcome was grim: at least seven lives lost and several others seriously wounded. The Imo State Police Command, via its spokesperson, didn’t mince words, calling the event “barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable.”

The Hunt Begins

Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, swiftly condemned the attack, suggesting it may be linked to suspected members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN. In response, the Command has reportedly thrown considerable operational and intelligence resources into action, aiming to pinpoint and apprehend those responsible as quickly as possible. You can imagine the urgency as tactical teams are now actively engaged in an intense search throughout the affected area.

Community Reassurance

Commissioner Danjuma himself led tactical units to comb the areas, later stating that the situation is now considered under control. Steps are apparently being taken to bolster security and prevent any further incidents. The Commissioner also extended heartfelt sympathies to the families who suffered loss, offering prayers for the departed and for the injured to recover swiftly. He also seemed to encourage the community to stay resilient through this difficult period.
