Shehu Sani to El-Rufai, Amaechi: Apologise for Nigeria’s Economic Pain

KADUNA, NIGERIA – As Nigerians grapple with deepening economic hardship, former Senator Shehu Sani has unleashed a sharp critique against ex-governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi. Sani directly accuses them of playing a part in the nation’s current financial struggles. He delivered these strong words in his Sallah message on Friday. The El-Rufai, Amaechi remarks are stirring debate as citizens feel the pinch.

Sani didn’t mince words, pointing out the irony of former top officials lamenting poverty and hunger after many years in positions of power. “If El-Rufai and Amaechi are still talking about poverty and hunger in this country, then they must first apologise to Nigerians,” he declared. Sani drove his point home: “Since 1999, they’ve both occupied powerful positions. If the country is still in this state, it means they failed.” He slammed their recent public statements on hardship as hypocritical.

“The Suffering Is Real”: Sani Blames Past Policy Failures

Shehu Sani stressed that the widespread hunger, joblessness, and insecurity plaguing Nigeria are not random misfortunes. Instead, he argues, they are the direct outcome of failed policies by a string of administrations. “The poor are suffering. People can’t afford food, school fees, or hospital bills,” Sani lamented, painting a grim picture of daily life for many. The El-Rufai, Amaechi criticism specifically targets those he believes should shoulder responsibility. “They are shameless to face the nation and talk about hardship. Those who caused this mess are acting like they are mere observers,” he asserted.

He took aim at the political elite, accusing them of trying to distance themselves from the very problems they helped create. Sani stated, “You cannot govern Nigeria for years and turn around to speak as if you were never part of the problem. The people deserve sincerity and accountability, not recycled rhetoric.”

A Call for Unity and Real Leadership Amidst Crisis

Despite his pointed criticisms, Sani’s message also carried a call for national unity and prayer. He emphasized the urgent need for a collective commitment to meaningful reforms and genuine governance. “We are in one of the most difficult times in our history. But we must not give up. Let us pray for peace and progress, and most importantly, demand better leadership,” he urged fellow Nigerians.

Turning to the severe security crisis in the north, he issued a stark warning: “The North is bleeding. Bandits have displaced millions and killed thousands. We must unite behind all genuine efforts to restore peace.” In his closing, Sani appealed for patriotism and resilience. “Don’t let anyone tell you Nigeria is a scam. Be proud of your country, but be bold enough to demand justice and accountability from those who led us here,” he concluded. His message was a blend of holding past leaders like El-Rufai and Amaechi accountable and inspiring hope for a better future.
