Sheikh Gumi Deported by Saudi Arabia, Barred from 2025 Hajj

MEDINA – Saudi Arabian authorities deported Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a prominent Nigerian Islamic scholar. They also barred him from the 2025 Hajj. Saudi Arabia deported Sheikh Gumi despite him possessing a visa. He was denied entry upon arrival in Medina Saturday night via an Umza Air flight.

Official Reason: “Views on World Politics”

Sheikh Gumi stated Saudi authorities linked their decision to his opinions. They cited “reasons related to my views on world politics” for denying him entry. This was the official reason for the Saudi Arabia, Gumi entry denial. The scholar was part of a National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) delegati,n. The delegation intended to provide religious services during Hajj.

Sheikh Gumi’s Response and Return

Sheikh Gumi addressed the incident on his Facebook page. “Due to some reasons related to my views on world politics, the authorities in Saudi Arabia do not want me to be present at Hajj even though they have granted me a visa,” he wrote. He thanked Nigerian authorities, adding, “I am grateful to the authorities in Nigeria who have pledged to engage with the Saudi authorities on this matter.” Following the deportation, Sheikh Gumi returned to Nigeria. He has resumed his regular teaching.
