OGUN STATE – Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Olalomi Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been handed a three-month prison sentence by Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo in Ogun State. The judgment comes after Portable faced charges of assault and theft stemming from an incident in late 2022. Although initially granted bail in April 2023, the singer Portable sentenced today had previously failed to appear for required court hearings, leading to his remand.
Court Delivers Verdict on Charges
Chief Magistrate Ilo found Portable guilty on two specific counts related to the November 18, 2022, incident in Okeosa, Ilogbo.
- Count 1 (Assault): One-month imprisonment, with the option to pay a N10,000 fine instead.
- Count 2 (Theft): Two months’ imprisonment, with the option to pay a N20,000 fine instead.
The court determined the prosecution proved its case regarding the assault and theft of musical instruments allegations before sentenced the singer.
Path to Sentencing
Portable was formally charged with assault and theft earlier. His failure to attend scheduled court sessions after receiving bail appears to have factored into the court’s handling of the case. The final ruling requires Portable to serve the time or pay the stipulated fines to avoid imprisonment following the sentenced decision.
