ABUJA – Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has made a strong declaration. He stated all five governors in Nigeria’s Southeast are backing President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 election. Umahi shared this during a State House documentary interview. He said the region is united behind the President, regardless of political party differences. This unity, Umahi explained, stems from a notable increase in federal projects benefiting the Southeast under the current administration. A summit is being planned to formalize this Southeast support for Tinubu.
“Every governor in the South East, no matter their party, is working with the President,” Umahi asserted. He revealed plans for this political summit to gather key Southeast leaders. This includes an invitation to Labour Party’s Peter Obi to join in a formal Tinubu 2027 endorsement. “We want our projects finished. We want a stronger, unified country and true integration for Ndi Igbo,” Umahi stated, outlining the region’s aspirations.
A Call to Peter Obi: Support Who Delivers
Senator Umahi directed a pointed message to Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State. Umahi urges Peter Obi to put the region’s progress first and support President Tinubu’s efforts. “Leadership is about the people, not oneself. If another person is already delivering for your people, it is right to support him,” Umahi suggested.
He praised President Tinubu’s government for actively addressing past feelings of neglect in the Southeast. He highlighted ongoing federal work in Ebonyi State and other parts of the region as clear evidence. “For the first time, the South East has a Minister of Works. We are seeing real projects… The President has paid 30 percent for the Second Niger Bridge,” Umahi pointed out. He believes such actions are diminishing cries of marginalisation, building the foundation for Southeast support for Tinubu.
National Projects Signal Economic Growth
Umahi also showcased major national infrastructure developments. He called the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway a transformative project, with its first section over 80% done. “By December, Section 1 will be ready for tolling… This is an economic corridor, not just a road,” he said, noting features like solar lights and CCTV.
Other significant projects like the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and the Trans-Saharan Trade Route were also mentioned. Umahi urges Peter Obi and other leaders to see these as signs of progress. “President Tinubu is bringing these long-held dreams to reality,” Umahi declared. He stated these projects show Tinubu’s strong commitment to developing Nigeria for all.
