State Police in Nigeria: Northern Governors Push for Urgent Security Reform

ABUJA – Leaders from Northern Nigeria are calling for a major change in how the country handles security. The Northern Governors Forum (NGF) strongly urges the creation of State police in Nigeria. They are asking the National Assembly to pass the necessary laws without delay. This step is seen as vital to increase safety for people across Nigeria. Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Chairman of the NGF, made this position clear after a key meeting.

Governors United for Localized Policing with State Police in Nigeria

The push for State police in Nigeria has solid backing from governors across the Northern region. Governor Yahaya shared the group’s official decision. He stated, “The Forum resolved to support the creation of state police. We call on the National Assembly to expedite action on the enactment of the legal framework for its take off.” This direct call shows the governors believe quick action is needed for this security change. The presence of 19 Northern Governors and state traditional leaders at the meeting signals a powerful, unified stance on improving safety at the local level.

Stronger Borders, Teamwork Key to Tackling Crime
