Tinubu Aide Claims Senator Ndume Secretly Backs Opposition

LAGOS, Nigeria – An adviser to President Bola Tinubu claimed Sunday that Senator Ali Ndume’s loyalty lies with the opposition, not the ruling APC. Daniel Bwala urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to be wary of the prominent senator.

Bwala made the statement on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics” program.

“Senator Ali Ndume’s spirit and soul are with the coalition; it is his body that is in APC,” Bwala declared. “He is already going.”

Bwala suggested Ndume should be open about his stance. He praised former Governor Nasir El-Rufai for being direct about leaving the party.

“El-Rufai didn’t feel he could stay and be a snitch,” Bwala added, suggesting this showed more “honour”.

Ndume, a senior lawmaker from Borno South, recently criticized President Tinubu’s leadership. He questioned Tinubu’s focus, citing Nigeria’s security and economic problems as urgent issues.

The senator also hinted at changing political alignments. Ndume suggested Tinubu should be concerned if former President Muhammadu Buhari no longer supports him.

This comment followed a meeting between opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, and Buhari.

Bwala’s warning occurs as political groups reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections. Opposition figures like Atiku and Peter Obi are discussing forming a coalition to challenge Tinubu’s administration.
