Tinubu Orders Security Overhaul Amid Attacks

Abuja – President Bola Tinubu met with Nigeria’s security chiefs on Wednesday and ordered a complete security overhaul. This followed increasing violence across the nation. The meeting happened at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa after Tinubu returned from an 18-day trip abroad.

Recent deadly attacks continued in states like Plateau, Benue, and Borno while Tinubu was away. Reports indicate dozens were killed, including 56 in Benue, and thousands were displaced. Security convoys entered the villa Wednesday afternoon before the closed-door meeting.

President Declares “Enough is Enough”

A statement from Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, released before the meeting, quoted Tinubu saying, “Enough is enough.” Tinubu condemned the violence and directed a review of security strategies. Onanuga said the new directives aim to end insecurity in affected states. This security overhaul reflects the president’s call for action.

New Directives Focus on Collaboration

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu spoke to reporters after the meeting. He said President Tinubu received updates and gave new instructions. “He gave us new directives,” Ribadu stated, adding Tinubu wants increased efforts to restore calm.

The new plan requires more collaboration between federal security agencies and local governments. “We need to work with the communities. We need to work with the local governments, and we need to work with the governors,” Ribadu explained. He repeated Tinubu’s message: “He said, ‘Enough is enough.’ We are working to ensure that we restore peace and security.” The security overhaul includes working closely with local leaders.
