ABUJA – A new era begins for Nigeria’s oil giant as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially inaugurated the NNPCL new board. Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari steps in as the Group Chief Executive Officer, with Ahmadu Musa Kida appointed Non-Executive Chairman. The significant swearing-in ceremony unfolded at the State House in Abuja, shortly before President Tinubu joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit.
“This board is a reflection of our commitment to reform and professionalism in the energy sector,” President Tinubu emphasised during the event. The inauguration of this NNPCL new board is seen as a pivotal step in shaping the future of Nigeria’s critical oil and gas industry.
Fresh Faces, Nationwide Expertise on NNPCL New Board
The newly formed 11-member NNPCL new board brings together a diverse group of professionals. It boasts representation from all six of Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, a move designed to infuse the oil and gas sector with a wealth of experience from across the nation.
Meet some of the key figures now guiding the NNPCL:
- North West: Adedapo Segun and Bello Rabiu
- North East: Yusuf Usman
- North Central: Babs Omotowa, the respected former MD of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG)
- South-South: Austin Avuru
- South-West: David Ige
- South-East: Henry Obih
Minister of Finance Wale Edun praised the selection, stating, “It’s a team of tested experts, drawn from across the federation.” This composition aims to ensure the NNPCL new board benefits from broad perspectives.
Government Oversight and a Push for Innovation
Adding to the strategic mix, the NNPCL new board also includes key government officials to ensure alignment and oversight. Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya from the Ministry of Finance and Aminu Said Ahmed from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources will contribute their expertise.
Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), shared his optimism: “This diverse and knowledgeable board is expected to drive transparency and innovation.” All appointments to this impactful NNPCL new board formally commenced on April 2, 2025, setting the stage for their work ahead.
