Trump Denies Plans for Third Term, Vows to Respect Limit

Washington D.C. – President Donald Trump has shut down speculation he might seek a third term, stating definitively, “This is not something I’m looking to do.” His clear denial came during an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”

Trump emphasized his intention to follow the two-term limit established by the 22nd Amendment. This clarification follows previous instances where Trump publicly entertained the idea of running again, sparking debate about constitutional boundaries. The Trump third term rumours appear settled for now, based on his statement.

Eyeing a Republican Handover

Instead of a third term, Trump said he focuses on completing his current term successfully and ensuring a Republican follows him. “I’m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican, a great Republican to carry it forward,” he explained.

When pressed on who that successor might be, Trump highlighted key figures within his party:

  • Vice President JD Vance
  • Secretary of State Marco Rubio

“We have a lot of good people in this party,” Trump added, suggesting a strong field for the future.

Questions Remain on Constitutional Stance

Despite denying third term ambitions, Trump’s interview included moments that raised questions about his views on the US Constitution. Asked directly if he would uphold the Constitution, Trump responded, “I don’t know.”

Similarly, when questioned about the constitutional right to due process for everyone, he stated, “I’m not a lawyer. I don’t know.” These comments created a contrast with his stated commitment to the term limits outlined within the same Constitution.
