Trump’s Tariffs Threaten Nigeria’s Economy, Warns Sani

Abuja – Former Senator Shehu Sani said Trump’s tariffs threaten Nigeria’s economy faces serious risks. Sani called the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump a “suicide mission” for Nigeria. He noted most Nigerians under 40 own far more Chinese products than American goods.

Chinese Goods Common in Nigerian Homes

Sani wrote on X, “Many families can point to ten Chinese products in their homes before pointing to One American product which is either Hollywood movies or Pfizer products.” This highlights why Trump’s tariffs threaten Nigeria’s economy is a concern due to potential trade disruption.

Government Concern Over Trade Impact

Trump’s tariffs have increased global trade tensions, especially with China. China has stated it will protect its economic interests. The Nigerian government also expressed concern. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, said the tariffs could make Nigerian exports less competitive in the US market. This shows how US trade policies affect other nations like Nigeria.
