Kyiv – Ukraine will not accept territorial compromises to end Russia’s invasion, Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa stated. She said Russia is not prepared for peace. Betsa warned against trusting Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Russia Accused of Stalling
Betsa accused Russia of stalling ceasefire negotiations. She said Ukraine consistently tried to engage in peace talks. “We cannot trust Russia. Russia lies,” Betsa stated, referring to past truce discussions.
Failed Ceasefire Efforts
Ukraine discussed ceasefires with U.S. officials in early March, Betsa revealed. They agreed to ceasefires by air, sea, and land starting March 11th. “Russia imposed conditions,” she explained. While Kyiv addressed these conditions, Russia resumed attacks with greater force. “So many people have been killed throughout this month,” Betsa said. She believes Russia’s actions show it does not truly want peace talks or peace. Ukraine maintains it will not accept “peace at any price.”
