London – The UK is hosting a virtual summit on the Ukraine War, bringing together around 25 leaders. Participants include European partners, the EU Commission, NATO, Ukraine, and Canada.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin “cannot be allowed to play games” with peace negotiations. The US Secretary of State echoed this, accusing Putin of “trying to delay” an agreement. The US also stated Putin will eventually have to negotiate.
Summit Goals and Recent Developments
The summit aims to persuade the US to “guarantee Ukraine’s security in the future.” Starmer pushed for more support for Ukraine and increased pressure on Russia.
This follows Putin’s recent ceasefire conditions, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called “manipulative.” US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, reported “good and productive” discussions with Putin in Moscow.
The UK has committed £12.8 billion in aid to Ukraine, including £7.8 billion in military support. The UK has also provided £45 million in humanitarian aid through the UN and other groups. The UK’s efforts are part of a broader international response, with the US, EU, and other countries providing significant aid regarding the Ukraine War.
